The start will be in Salsomaggiore, beside of the famous liberty Berzieri Spas. Will continues toward Fidenza, then arrives to the wonderful Fontanellato's middle age castle, where finishes the half Marathon.

Then Continue to Soragna where finishes the 30 km Prince Run, and finally the marathon arrives in Busseto.

Where is This Marathon?

4 good reasons to participate to Verdi's Land Marathon.

1) During all the competition, you will listen the renowned Giuseppe Verdi's Opera Arias. The Marathon goes through the province of Parma, the land of  the famous Opera Music Composer, and the finishing line is in Busseto, the village of the Master. 

2) The competition is in lightly downhill: the start in Salsomaggiore is 160 meters above sea level, when the arrival in Busseto is 40 meters.

3) There are 4 competitions: if you prefer short distances there is Salsomaggiore-Fidenza 9,5 km; or you can compete in the Half-Marathon finishing to the Fontanellato Castle, 21,097 meters; or if you are planning a Springtime Marathon you can make a useful training on 30 km with  "la Corsa del Principe", The Prince Run, arriving in Soragna beside the Melilupi Prince's Castle-Palace.
 

4) You will be received in The Verdi's Land with a Reception Party Buffet completely free, taken to tourist trip in the picturesque places of this Land, you could taste the gastronomical treasures of our Parma Land: the Culatello Ham, the authentic Parmesan Cheese and the Lambrusco sweet red wine 

  Competition Route

Lightly downhill, goes through 5 ancient towns: Salsomaggiore, Fidenza, Fontanellato, Soragna and Busseto, beside a romanic Cathedral, three middle age and Renaissence   castles; passes through the Fidenza Village with 100 shops, passes beside the house where Giuseppe Verdi was born, in Roncole Verdi, where rest Giovannino Guareschi, the creator of "Don Camillo and Peppone" stories.

There are only 20 curves in all the distance. The run goes through the land, allways different, between houses, fields, poplar groves, small churches and wonderful Sights. 

  Regulations

All the athletes in possession of membership card of  national trackand field federation affiliated to IAAF can participate. Who doesn'thas it can participate showing a fitness medical certificate. Tocompete in the half-marathon, in the 30 km Prince Run and the entiremarathon is required the age of 18 years as minimum. To compete in the9,5 km Salsomaggiore-Fidenza is required the age of 14 years at least,only if they have  membership card of national federation affiliatedIAAF.

" To the joy! ....to the races, to the runs....." says the third  act of the " Due Foscari", just as if Francesco Maria Piave, the Opera-book's drafter,had  had an early warning sign. This invitation is really current nowadays in Giuseppe Verdi's native land for the ninth edition of the " Terre Verdiane's Marathon".

On February 28th 2010, the fabulous Marathon of the" Terre Verdiane" is back again.

This event which is at its 13th edition is able to offer  you all the best that the region  of the great Maestro Giuseppe Verdi can express.

You can join in the classical 42 km and 195 m run which will take place in a landscape that has no equal, accompanied by the most famous  tunes of the great Maestro.

You will have a run back in time, in streets without cars, taking long droughts of clean and cool air of the lowland near Parma.

Departure is due at 9.30 a.m  starting from Via Romagnosi in Salsomaggiore; you will pass along  the Thermae Berzieri an art nouveau masterpiece proceeding to Fidenza on the ancient pilgrims' road running through the countryside that leads to Fontanellato. Here you will flank the Fortress of Sanvitale and then reach Soragna, the fief of Prince Melilupi and you will also run along Giuseppe Verdi's birthplace in Roncole and arrive exhausted but happy in Busseto at the winning-post , placed under the majestic statue of the great Maestro Giuseppe Verdi in the square dedicated to him.

It's a unique adventure in its kind.!

But this competition isn't only  a track and field event! It can be considered  a real feast. This event, indeed, unique in its kind gives  the runner fans the opportunity to choose even other possibilities.

Who is not gifted to run on long distances can choose the stretch between Salsomaggiore-Fidenza (Giuseppe Marcoaldi's Trophy) , a run just less than 10 km.

You can also take part to the" Fontanellato 14 Miles Run" a 22 km and 600 m set course , or to the " Prince 's Run", a competition of 30 km and 600 meters which ends up with the finishing-post in the centre of Soragna.

The day before the competition all participants are welcome to join in the organized tour to the Verdian Sights.

The evening before the competition all participants are invited to the welcoming Grand-Buffet where all the gastronomic deliciousness of our region can be appreciated.
